Operation Northwoods: False Flag Terrorist Attacks Perpetrated by the CIA

Declassified documents reveal that the Department of Defense (DoD) and the Joint Chiefs of Staff proposed that the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), and other US Operatives engage in terrorist attacks against US civilian, and military targets that they would then blame on a foreign government to convince the American people to support a war against that country. These false flag attacks, known as Operation Northwoods, may sound like the plot of this summers newest blockbuster film, or the true secret behind the war on terror. However, Operation Northwoods was proposed in 1962 as a way to justify a war with Fidel Castro’s Cuba.

Operation Northwoods proposals recommended hijackings and bombings followed by the introduction of phony evidence that would implicate the Cuban government. It stated:

“The desired resultant from the execution of this plan would be to place the United States in the apparent position of suffering defensible grievances from a rash and irresponsible government of Cuba and to develop an international image of a Cuban threat to peace in the Western Hemisphere.”

Implications of Operation Northwoods

CheyFidelThe Kennedy Administration rejected the proposals, and left us, instead, with a 60 year embargo that was just recently removed by the Obama administration. Although Operation Northwoods was never put into place, The language of the proposal (available here), ring eerily familiar.

The Operation Northwoods proposal reads:

“World Opinion, and the United Nations Forum should be favorably affected by developing the international image of the Cuban government as rash and irresponsible, and as an alarming and unpredictable threat to the Western Hemisphere.”

Another section of the proposal that seems alarming in the present context of world affairs says:

“Our military posture throughout execution of the plan will allow a rapid change from exercise to intervention if Cuban response justifies.”

With military “exercises” currently underway in the Northern Ukraine, (near Russia) The Indian Ocean (near China), and on American Soil (in the Midwest), One must wonder if any of these exercises are in place to “allow a rapid change from exercise to intervention”.

False Flag Terrorist Attacks: The Nitty Gritty

1200px-Guantanamo_Bay_Navy_Exchange_and_BEQThe actual proposals for false flag attacks range in severity. Some include

  • “blow up a US ship in Guantanamo Bay and blame Cuba”
  • “Blow up a drone vessel anywhere in the Cuban waters”
  • “Sink ship near harbor entrance. Conduct funerals for mock-victims”
  • “Develop a Communist Cuban Terror campaign in the Miami area, in other Florida cities, and even in Washington. “
  • “Use of MIG type aircraft by US pilots could provide additional provocation”
  • “Hijacking attempts against civil air and surface craft should appear to continue as harassing measures condoned by the government of Cuba”
  • “Create an incident which will demonstrate convincingly that a Cuban aircraft has attacked and shot down a chartered civil airliner enroute from the United States to Jamaica, Guatemala, Panama or Venezuela… The passengers could be a group of college students off on a holiday…”

These suggestions (and many more) are all intended to allow the US to wage a war that would appear to be “provoked” to the international community, as well as to the citizens of the US. Although Operation Northwoods was never implemented, one has to wonder what similar proposals were implemented. We know the Gulf of Tonkin incident (that propelled the US into the Vietnam war) was fabricated. The US Naval Institute says of the Gulf of Tonkin Incident “once-classified documents and tapes released in the past several years, combined with previously uncovered facts, make clear that high government officials distorted facts and deceived the American public about events that led to full U.S. involvement in the Vietnam War.”

One must wonder if other policy actions have been promoted by similar false flag operations. 9/11? Sandy Hook? Boston Marathon Bombings?

I am not saying any of these are false flags… but I am saying there is justification to be skeptical.
